Quoth Mike Erickson:

The thread that got Justin Raimondo banned from solo is here:

http://www.solohq.com/Forum/NewsDiscussions/0538.shtml

Are you sure that's the thread you're thinking of? I just read it in its entirety, and it's difficult to imagine anyone being banned from a site over it, unless items have been removed.

Regards,
Tom Knapp

Tom - I made the decision to ban Justin, & with huge regret. He had been an ally of mine against a true low life a year or so earlier, & I respected his vigour & thoroughness. Moreover, I admire someone who scoffs at prissy platitudes & weasel words in presenting a case to which he's passionately devoted. But I could see a pattern in his posts that I was not prepared to see perpetuated—attacking people (*good* people, & good friends whom I was not prepared to see endlessly insulted) for their haircuts, hypothetical flat feet, sexual proclivities, etc.. That sort of stuff is infantile, & SOLO is never going to be a repository for it. That continued *after* I'd cautioned against it. Combined with his Saddamy (which folk, as you may have observed, are otherwise free to advocate here), I figured he was an incendiary device SOLO didn't need. Call me on it if you wish, but call *me*, no one else. If it was a mistake, it was mine.

Mick Travis - dig deeper here. I think you will find that this site does indeed have a unique sense of life. Music, from rock to opera, is discussed and debated with great energy, as are the other arts. What constitutes a healthy psychology and spirit runs through a great percentage of the articles presented here.
I believe that Solo celebrates a joyful and benevolent approach to living with more variety and consistency than any magazine I know of.

Jeff,

"[sic]...[sic]..[sic]." Thank you for the english lesson.

My semi-literate point was I assumed Anita and Justin had a working relationship involving the sale of libertarian materials. Trading relationships where each party has an interest in profiting from the relationship are necessarily more cordial than other types of relationships, especially ones where there may be fundamental disagreements and egos are involved. That seemed obvious to me, but what does a semi-literate like me know?

As for "He was perfectly respectful and courteous until the denizens of SOLO began firing their uninformed insults at him,.."

I started with his very first post in that thread, Justin engages entirely in a not very pleasant rant against Tom Palmer, did not address anyone at solo directly on any point, did not preface his remarks by any sort of introductory thought at all, but dives right into nit picking Tom Palmer's use of the word "quisling". Bit of a rude start. It doesn't get any better.

As for your "I regard the majority opinion of the Iraq war and the Mideast here on SOLO as delusional,"

I am here at solo because I was appalled at what I was reading at Lew Rockwell's and other libertarian sites and that motivated me search for web sites more representative of my views. I was delighted to discover the "Sense of Life Objectivists", I revere many of the writers here. Your are welcome to regard me as delusional if you wish, but I am a guest in Lindsay Perigo's house not yours. I will continue to honor my right to consider your imaginings as pipe dreams. Let history be the judge of who is correct.

You may copy and paste as needed: [sic] [sic] [sic]

Mick Travis - I agree with James. There's loads of good stuff around here. Don't let some of the bickering bother you. The BS acceptance level is pretty low and perpetrators normally get hooted down.

Lot's of passion and reason integration (not dichotomy) in here if you can handle it. Welcome aboard.

Update:

I have not received what I would need to eliminate any of the possible suspects, or to identify the culprit: a complete set of headers of an e-mail message from each of the possible suspects. I did receive one e-mail copy of content only, no headers - but the e-mail to BB is too short to even attempt a comparative stylographic analysis. So - no evidence, no progress.

If the Webmaster is interested, the culprit's IP address or host name, which I already posted, should be associated with a member name, or with an anonymous connection, in the server log files.

Shall we leave this one and let it sleep?

Linz,

Exactly why would I "call" you on anything? I note that beneath your name on the thread lists, it says "founder and principal." It's your site. You can ban anyone from it for any reason you like, or for no reason at all. If you couldn't, it wouldn't be yours.

That said, thank you for clearing up the confusion -- it was more that you didn't want things to go where they were going than that you were pissed off with where they had already gone. Makes sense.

Why expend energy paying attention to insulting emails or trying to dissect the entrails of computer code to find out which group of loonies excreted the loose turds? That's time and neurons and a sense of smell dulled or lost forever in a life where time to do great things is incredibly precious and incredibly limited. Just hit the delete button two seconds after seeing the first insult. "I don't think of you" springs to mind.
