| | Nice article! I thought it was very clearly and cleanly written. I think that if Ayn Rand were still with us, she would observe that the basic idea behind both current US political parties is "service." The Republicans would have us serve god, while the Democrats would have us serve humankind. And both want us to serve the collective and the future -- plus something abstract and vague which is "bigger than the individual." But all this "service" talk ultimately refers to, and results in, servitude. Basically and outrageously, John F. Kennedy captured the world with his loathsome "Ask not" ethos. People today need to learn to openly embrace "selfishness" and "greed" -- and demand full political protection for their pursuits in this regard. It's truly sad to think how far America has declined -- politically and morally -- from the Enlightenment liberal era of the Founding Fathers. Both dominant political ideologies today -- right-wing conservatism and left-wing progressivism -- are basically versions of fascism and communism. And both are monstrous.
