I've had some very interesting, exhilarating, annoying, amusing, atrocious, disussions lately and before I disappear again for a while I'd like to sum them up in what I've learnt during my latest 'stint at Solo' (see below) - I'm off to new pastures again and will have little time for active participations so my thanx to everybody who was willing to engage (on and off-line) and my apologies to those who's toes I have stepped on in the process - and 'thanx for all the fish' :-)

An American objectivist is the sum of the beliefs he can still rationalise ... A German objectivist is the sum of the rationality he can still believe in.

- American objectivists live in the land of opportunity and still believe in a free market. German objectivists have seen the 'Wirtschaftswunder' fade culminating in buying a broke socialist state.
- American objectivists live in the land of liberty and still believe in a restricted government. German objectivists have seen the restricted government become a restricting one culminating in the 'gläserner Bürger' laws.
- American objectivists live in the land of open space and still believe in freedom. German objectivists have seen their space been closed in their faces when they opened to the EU.
- American objectivists live in the land of riches and still believe in the self-made millionaire. German objectivists have seen their riches wasted away on society culminating in the 'Hartz IV' regulations.

We'll find out in the coming years if you do have the Dagnys and Hanks and Ragnars to carry the world before you. Currently I've seen more of the Dubyahs, so we'll probably have to move further north to Iceland and Greenland to cling to the last shreds of rationality and freedom for individuals.

Now there's a thought - if Greenland melts, there'll be plenty opportunities for homesteading... ;-)

You can’t leave. Look at you, you haven't left.

Each one of us guys can be a real prick sometimes. And we can pile on sometimes, too. I wish I could say who was being a prick and was responsible for driving Sarah away, or you, but I don’t think it was any one. In her case, it was probably just a matter of the piling on, which can be overwhelming.

But we usually turn out to be fun-loving and kind afteral, the next day or week. That’s because we’re all dysfunctional little shits, just like you and Sarah. But we try, too. You must see that.

So you are not leaving.

And neither is Sarah.

Kicking Ass is hard work - and I got other jobs going - so I'll be off for a while - I too hope Sarah and all the other girls will swing by again sometimes - have fun with the boys until then :-)

Goodbye (for now), Vera.

It was a pleasure (sincerely) interacting with you,

Ed

p.s. I hope that you feel that the door is open for you, when you get to thinking about coming back for awhile again.

We have to be smart about it, though, Clarence. Talking about it on this obscure thread is a good move on that count.

No way am I going to defend the subject of an eminent domain taking with you. There are safer ways to have fun. Let’s do a week in the desert at the southern border. I hear the Mexican Army is making incursions into US territory to probe local alert levels for drug runners. I doubt they use their best guys for this bullshit. So, we do “nothing particularly aggressive” in order to draw their fire, and then we do what anyone would do to defend their life—and the fun begins. Their wounded will be retrieved and removed and nothing gets reported so as to avoid any international embarrassment. We would be the only innocents who could get hurt and everyone has fun—how ‘bout it?

Hmm...Mexican army. I think we’ll need a bigger posse for that. Oh and a Texan of course.

And more guns.

Question, Vera - why do you stay where ye be, or do ye really consider nowhere else better, such as the US?

Actually - one thing you probably know but knowing may not be the same as experiencing.  That is that the population density of Germany if applied to the US would mean we would have close over a billion people (I don't have exact numbers but it is a whole lot) - what I am saying is that there is a lot more open space in the US and you may find that more comfortable.  There are also fewer state controls, though not as few as I would like.

Vera, while it may be more difficult than it used to be, it's not impossible to immigrate to the US.  American Immigration officials still approve thousands and thousands of people to come every year to live permanently. In fact, they even have a "lottery" system that allows people to stay on permanent Visas. An old co-worker's girlfriend was a lucky recipient of a permanent Visa through the lottery system. She was from Eastern Europe.

Another option would be to meet a nice American man.... *wink wink wink*

Thanx for your suggestions, but I really must be off - got some other things to do that will keep me out of trouble for a while - so just a last few short shorts:
- try the population density (and distribution) of the Republic of Guyana on the U.S. and you'll know what wasn't enough
- one law is one too many where an individual lives as an individual completely and only
- the lottery means that some get lucky some get screwed, but neither of them can decide the prize
- I'm a dyke, you're available ;-)
Have Fun

Ooops! And nope, but I'm flattered non the less.

I shoulda said "find a nice American man or Canadian woman..."

Canada recognizes same sex marriage now.

We'll get there eventually....
