I got this notice (below) from a company interested in hiring me (from Monster.com). It mentions something called a "consumer investigative report." Apparently, from just this "report" alone, this company will effectively know my "character", "general reputation", "personal characteristics" -- whatever that means, and "mode of living" -- whatever that means ("among other relevant things").

So, if most of you end up getting contacted by them about me -- because this seems like something out of Orwell's 1984! -- would you put in a good word for me? Thanks.

;-)

Check this excerpt out ...

... Management, may request and obtain a consumer report or consumer investigative report in connection with your application for employment.  This report may be prepared by a consumer reporting agency at our request.  This report may contain information about you concerning your character, general reputation, personal characteristics, and mode of living, among other relevant things.

What??

Oh, it's a misleading name for a credit history, Ed.

So, this business about looking at a report to view my "character", "general reputation", "personal characteristics", and "mode of living" -- is just a fancy way of saying: "We may do a credit history check."? Makes you wonder why they don't save the space and just say: "We may do a credit history check."

Ed, what would the lawyers do for a job if that's all they wrote?

What I'm wondering is how 'credit-history checkers' would respond?
