I recently learned about a program called "International Baccalaureate" (IB) and wanted to learn more about it so I located this site:

http://www.ibo.org/

North Carolina is my home state but I could not find any schools from that state listed on the aforementioned site.  However, a Google search located this page:

http://enloehs.wcpss.net/programs/ib/

“The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”
Vade Mecum, 2007

This stream of politically correct buzzwords disturbs me.  Does anyone have any experience with this program?  Please share.

I've always thought IB was just another, more stringent accreditation than standard AP curricula. That doesn't sound too different than the standard boilerplate mission statements you get at most high schools.

This program (IB) is offered at my son's high school (in Chicago.) And as far as I know, it is (at least) exactly what Jim described; the most advanced students are placed in it. (There are 3 levels of honors courses at this high school; my son is in one level, but not IB.) I believe some of these IB kids get to take college level clases and receive the appropriate credit; I didn't know about all the "cultural" stuff, and "working with governments and international organizations", and such.

But I'm just guessing; I can find out and share at a later time what exactly is required of students, at least in this program here.

Thanks, Teresa, I knew the literal meaning of the mediaeval Latin phrase: "go-with-me" (cf. Spanish, vaya conmigo literally "go with-me-with") but was wondering if Vade Mecum is not also the name of a Catholic Organization.
