| | Dennett was seriously ill at one point (I forget with what affliction) to the point that he wasn't expected to make it, but he somehow pulled through. I saw a clip of him talking about that and he said many of his religious friends kept telling them they'd pray for him, and he told them that he appreciated that but that if it were up to him they would spend their time doing something more constructive (or something to that effect). I also remember him attributing his survival to the science of medicine, and not to the intervention of a deity.
