Greetings.
As promised, I am initiating this thread to receive comments on my essay, “Focusing on Conclusions in Persuasion.”
This is the essay’s opening paragraph:
“When persuading another person, your primary interest is that the other person adopt the conclusion of your argument - and whether or not he or she adopts all of your premises is of secondary, if any, importance. After all, it is on the basis of the conclusions they have reached that people decide what they ought to do, and their actions are of much more direct relevance to your life than whatever goes on inside their heads.”
A broader list of persuasion techniques is outlined in an earlier essay of mine, “Methods of Effective Persuasion”.
Note that all the ideas therein are tactical, rather than philosophical. They can most likely be adopted with great success by people of widely differing worldviews.
I am interested in your thoughts.
Sincerely, Gennady Stolyarov II
