Am I too old to write something?  I have plenty of tales to tell.

I like this idea for those campus Objectivist Clubs unable or unwilling to affiliate with ARI.

Why would you want groups unaffiliated with ARI?  They reach teens with their essay competitions.

Also, I would suggest buying the domains soloyouth.com and soloyouth.net as they are still available.  Count me in the group as I am the parent of a teenaged objectivist. I can help out with advertising and promotions.  A couple of years back I was involved in the launch of a daily commuter newspaper. How are you getting the word out aside from this forum?  Is there a press release, marketing plan, events, an advertising budget, or is it strictly word of mouth.  Any clubbers or campus club members in the group? What is the strategy so far?

Er, one thing: it's strictly what it says it is—SOLO Youth, for teenagers. Definitely no old fogeys allowed. "Old fogeys" is anyone over 19. Anyone over 25 is a dinosaur. Anyone over 50 pre-dates the universe. They'll accept our articles & our help but we old farts are *not allowed in*. Personally I suspect it's a headbanging caterwaulers' conspiracy.

Thanks for the support, Matt and Lindsay!

Jennifer, too old to write something? From your pic, you don't look a day over 18 :-) Get in touch!

Luther, campus clubs already exist, and I'm sure we'd have common ground, but I'm more interested in the virtually unexploited (except for the ARI essay competitions) teenage/high school market.

Kathy, the domains are certainly a possibility. I would definitely like to talk to you about marketing and will be in touch soon regarding the marketing strategy (which does exist).

Lindsay, at least one of our members is more into barbershop singing than headbanging caterwauling, but maybe that's just as bad!

Phil

PS: Many thanks to those who have contacted me personally, and all those who have expressed support :-)

Katdaddy asked:

The ARI hates SOLO for various reasons.  Any campus club that has an affiliation with ARI will lose that affiliation if they engage in SOLO activities.  Search the SOLO site to learn the background.

Philip and Linz, thank you for the clarification about the target audience of SOLO Youth.  My remarks aimed at college freshmen who want to start campus Objectivist Clubs, but I see now these will remain two distinctive markets.  In any case, SOLO Youth looks like a good "feeder" program for SOLO Clubs just like the ARI essay contests serve as good "feeder" programs for the ARI Objectivist Academic Center and ARI campus clubs.

Too bad, it seems like by the time SOLO Youth is up and running, I will have hit the big 2-0 and descended into fogeyville.

Anybody willing to write my obituary in 8 years?

It all sounds very promising - and being 17 makes me the only one here qualified for entry i guess...

Oh and don't worry Linz - Not all of us young ones are 'headbanging caterwauls' - Give me Rachmaninoff anyday.
