Thanks for posting this, Glenn!! This is really terrific news. This is a terrific achievement for Robert Bidinotto. I'm hoping TAS can get maximum mileage out of this. Maybe one day I'll see The New Individualist in Barnes and Noble.

Thanks so much.

By the way, the link that heads this article has been changed to this one.

My own reflections on the night, plus a lot of photos, can be found here.

In the photo below, that's me in the middle, with the two award presenters, Tony Silber, editor and publisher of Folio:Magazine (right), and Kerry Smith, the president of Red 7 Media:

As I've said elsewhere, that's one small step for an individualist, one giant leap for The New Individualist.

Again, thanks to all who have been sending congratulatory messages. They mean a lot.

Once via e-mail and again here...

Congratulations, Robert...

By the way, your "Green Cathedrals" article in this month's issue is also award worthy. The preamble itself is exemplary.

Congratulations, Robert! This is one hell of an achievement!

But it doesn't surprise me that true individualists can write as eloquently and elegantly as Robert Bidinotto. Unlike certain other people who I won't name -- but who write in the heavily formulaic, stilted, ham-handed, hounded, beleaguered manner of Catholic or Communist dogma writers -- I think The New Individualist authors live up to their title!

Since I'm certain Robert won't mind plastering a website with photos of himself, here's another one of him with the award:

I'm truly grateful for the outpouring of support I've been receiving -- here, in other forums, and privately.

I only hope TNI continues to engage, enlighten, and entertain you.

A photo of the award, and the award-winning article:

Er...I assume that all of you well-wishers DO subscribe to The New Individualist...right?

Thanks for reminding me I should subscribe - I just did, don't know why I hadn't yet!  Also got one of your posters for my place at work.

Good job!

Gigi and Kurt, thank you SO very much. I am confident that you'll regard your subscription to TNI as money very well spent. The magazine itself is much better than the online-posted versions of the articles, as I'm sure you will agree when you see it.

I just subscribed myself although I've been avidly freeriding on my brother's subscription :-). I've got a feeling some of these issues will be collector's items someday.

Results orientation is one of my big measuring sticks for success. You can have the best ideas in the world, but if you don't make it attractive, package and sell it, it's all for naught. There's all too often been an I'm principled and I'm going to cram these ideas down your throat approach in Objectivist circles.

If we have respect for the growing enlightenment segment of our population and produce timely, relevant commentary from an Objectivist perspective, we will convince many, many people of the value of our philosophy.

I think you've got an avalanche of subscribers coming, Robert and you've earned and deserve every one of them.

Jim

Jim, many thanks.

I've long thought of you as exactly the kind of independent-minded, critical reader that I most wanted to persuade of the value of The New Individualist. We've been knocking ourselves out to do that. And to avoid the pitfalls you so well summarize.

You can't imagine just how encouraging to me your enthusiastic response is.

P.S. to anyone who hasn't yet seen the magazine and wonders, "Should I take the plunge?"

Have a free copy, on us. Send an email to managing editor Sherrie Gossett -- sgossett(at)atlassociety(dot)org -- and ask her to send you the September or October issue of the magazine as a free sample.

I will BET you that you'll subscribe.
