With aggregate tax exceeding 40% of income, and inflation exceeding 5% -- it can be speculated that this is one of the most collectivist times in U.S. history. Speculators will have to mentally juggle the issue of war, and will likely compare now to early times when war used to be formally declared, and when winning used to be more clean and precise. Trouble is, the public's been split into politician sports teams -- so that even the good "side" doesn't have to play fair (they'll still have the full support of their loyal fans; fans loyal to men).

As long as we're at war with someone or something, then all manner of collectivism may be seen as not only tolerable, but even attractive; and, at least, as "pro-American." Collectivism as pro-American; that's some Newspeak for you to wrap your mind around.

I'm very concerned about the state of the economy right now (and I've always been a "bull" among bulls). The Fed was caught in a difficult position. I can't imagine that if anyone else were in charge the Fed would've done differently. The price of various commodities (gold in particular) and the drop in the dollar suggest major money supply inflation.

That is what inflation is, an increase in the money supply. Lowering interest rates increases the money supply and begets inflation.

Well, that was my point.
