If "person of the year" is the person about whom the news revolved, then it remains President Bush.
Saddam Hussein was executed on December 30, 2006, so he does not get into the running.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharaff continues to dominate the news at least as much as the Russian President.
Personally, I believe that it is a collectivist fallacy to place so much importance on politicians when in truth society improves from the actions of other kinds of people. For instance:
Steve Jobs and the iPhone were news in 2007.
J.K. Rowling capped her Harry Potter series this past summer, as well.
It might be unfair to two teams to single out one person but Jeff Miller would represent the recent breakthrough in stem cells that will allow any human cell to be used to make any other.
Time's "Man of the Year" montage with links is here: http://www.time.com/time/2007/poy/ Note that Josef Stalin made the list twice and Franklin Roosevelt three times. Also cited were Pierre Laval and Hugh Johnson... as well as "person of the year" Wallis Simpson.... Make of the designation whatever you choose it to mean.
