It's a real slap in the face for the U.S. if there are some parts of Baghdad that really are relying on "Iranian-backed charities" as their "main source" of propane tanks, food staples, and garbage collection.

We're inadvertently sending a message to some Iraqis that Islam is better for them than the West is -- and that can't be a good thing to do (inadvertently, or not).

One what Two Tablets of Stone is it written that government is the best agency for collecting the garbage? Long before the government collected garbage, private parties were collecting "night soil" (aka shit) for fertilizing their land.

Taking a larger view, any army of occupation acquires an obligation to keep order and maintain public order and health. Occupying a country is like grabbing a wolf by the ears. It is easy to do, and very hard to undo.
