| | A germane idea? :-)
In Guns, Germs, and Steel the author (Jared Diamond) attributes disease-carrying germs to domesticated animals. (He probably also attributes them to vermin, which are more numerous in denser populations and less sanitary conditions, but it's been a while since I read the book). While this author's germ explanation may be partly correct, I suspect that individual and collectivism have "sense of life" causes, not simply pathogens.
