It's interesting how those Catholics keep poking their fingers into Rand. (You have to read the article. I'm not going to explain.)

One could almost...

respect
some religions...

or their practitioners...

almost.

**Three Catholics meeting at mass come together to push the Atlas project**

> I was a little blown away by the Catholic thing. I had no idea... [Teresa]

Teresa, it doesn't surprise me. A lot of extremely religious people -LOVE- Rand for her portrayal of absolutes, of integrity, of honor. Her strong and impassioned characters.

It's a thousand times more likely that a religious person or an intrinsicist will find parts he likes, respects, resonates to in the novels or in the philosophy than a subjectivist or a relativist or someone who emerges epistemologically brainwashed from top western colleges.

Or who has no ethical standards and no respect for the –idea- of having unchanging standards.

Which is why Objectivism will spread first in 'traditionalist' countries and institutions and way, way later in 'modernist' places,no matter how advanced or educated.

Forget about most of (Western) Europe (and many of the more 'hip' parts of America), for example...

Stick a fork in 'em, they're done.

I've know and have known a fair number of devout Christians who LOVE "Atlas Shrugged."  The guy who hosts the local science fiction writer's group is both a devout Catholic, unless I'm completely misreading him, and an Ayn Rand fan and has a very early - I think Ist - edition of AS, as well as, I believe a copy of an unpublished indexed compendium of the ideas in AS done 40 years ago independently by some woman he knew.  The surprising thing is always that they see no contradiction between Christianity and objectivism.

On the other hand, I know plenty of atheists who are statist, subjectivist altruists.

To me, the primary problems that religious faith causes have to do with what doesn't happen.  I.e., resources NOT going into major anti-aging therapies and ultimately cures, because this Earth is just a test of character for advancement into ones real life in Heaven (or elsewhere).  There is also the implicit investment in misery, of course, as one local devout Catholic activist told me.  He visited inmates in prison and consoled them because he knew that someone who is truly at wits end is ready for Jesus.

Amen.

A person like that should be strung up between four horses...
