Embarrassing. Granholm will have blood on her hands this winter as gravel roads are very difficult to maintain during snow and ice season.

But, damnit, the unemployed will get their extended benefits, by golly! People can collect for 55+ weeks, instead of the customary 28.

As an unemployed person (who is not collecting government aid) I understand the difficulties of those who were tossed out because the government has been screwing around with the economy too long. I understand and I sympathize.
But, Michigan is going the way of Starnesville for sure. I read in the paper the other day that Flint is actually demolishing whole parts of town to decrease the amount of service to area's. Can you believe it! They are blasting homes and buildings to keep from having to do work on roads and sewers.
I don't know all the reasons for this happening, but I know that the early (and god I hope only the early) 2000's will be remembered as the age when our government stopped preaching the American Dream and started singing the anthems of destruction as a means to salvation.

And I heard that a plan is set to extend this type of destruction -- bulldozing up to 40% of the city -- to 50 other cities, nationwide. Pretty soon, there will be this headline:

"Ayn Rand Vindicated: New York City Reverts to Candle-Light Only"

I sympathize too, Steve, but only to a point.  I don't sympathize with people who sit, and do nothing but complain. I don't sympathize with people who honestly think they're "owed" something from a job that no longer exists.  I don't sympathise with people who refuse to learn anything new, or who refuse to take any risks. I am extremely unsympathetic to the UAW, and it's members, and I've become increasingly unsympathetic toward two of the Big Three.

I have been seriously considering looking into job opportunities in Texas. My job is, so far, secure, and I actually love my job here very much, but there are no words to describe my hatred for the state that I was born and raised in.  I don't even recognize it anymore.

Teresa,

I'm in a nearby socialist state (Minnesota), Teresa. My cousin is moving to Texas next year. I am considering moving there, too. I have at least a potential job that could get me started there. I'm glad that you reminded me of this kind of 'Going Galt'. We should, perhaps, all move to Texas.

I heard a rumor that, in 2008, Texas created more jobs than all of the other 49 states -- combined.

*gulp*

I just responded to a two month old ad for a production manager in a town in Texas I never heard of.  (lol)

Just putting out the feelers...no biggie.

Teresa,

Keep me updated about your progress (please). If it's looking successful even in the least, it may well inspire me to imitate you and become a Texan, too.
