| | If I recall correctly, this came from his early autobiography Arnold: The Education of a Bodybuilder. The passage followed his recollection of his "termination" of his first serious long term romantic relationship. Although he had enjoyed many short term relationships with a wide range of women, they all amounted to mere sex objects for him. Barbara became his first genuine love. After living together for many months, it became obvious that they had radically divergent ambitions. She wanted an ordinary life while he wanted an extraordinary one. They both admitted that the romance could not last that way, so she left. While he felt for a time quite demolished emotionally, he still felt grateful for the experience. It opened doors to his heart he never knew existed: "She showed me how to appreciate a woman."
Toastmasters has an advanced manual on storytelling. One of the five projects is called "The Touching Story." I want to read this passage from the book for that project. Imitating his accent might prove a challenge, however.
