Some people will accuse Objectivism of ignoring "facts" of human nature, e.g. man is ultimately a social animal rather than a rational one, etc.  My patience with the advocates of such "facts" is quite short, hence Objectivists sometimes get accused of trying to make "facts" cease to exist by simply ignoring them.  So while I basically agree with the quote, my definitions of certain key terms like "facts" may still so diverge from those of so-called "social scientists" as to make our applications of the quote irreconcilably different.

I agree with Luke completely.

It is certainly a true quote...but it can be twisted by anyone.
As soon as I saw it, I thought,
"That's exactly what Al Gore would say about global warming 'facts'."

As a counter-example, "the fact that I currently have operable cancer" is a fact that will cease to be true, if ignored.

And Luke, "Objectivism" can't ignore anything, only certain self-styled objectivists may. I am one of those radical empiricists, perhaps, but I see that as consistent with and within the bounds of Objectivist principles. What else does "check your premises" mean?

I remember being told in 1984 (what a great numbered year to find Rand!) that I would "grow out of" Objectivism. I was too unpracticed to have a neat come-back, but did mutter sotto voce "I doubt it."

I've been studying Objectivism since 2003, and it's 2007, and I find myself still an Objectivist. :3
