I saw her do Letting Go of God live last month and highly recommend it. Also, it's on CD, will be on DVD, and it seems a film as well.

I bought the CD.  It comes with a book that is a close transcription.  I am still not sure that it was worth $30.  I have not purchased Marcus Aurelius's Meditations in Loeb Classic for $20 and I think that I would have been better off with that and a Batman, actually.

The purchase has some salvage value. Sweeney makes some good points and tells a good story.  Some of her delivery is contrived: "When I was four..."  I found it easy to relate to her ethnic context. (Catholics are cautioned against reading the Bible, for instance: leave it to the professionals.)   If your spiritual journey began someplace else, that may or may not apply.

Sweeney is a comedian and actress

Much of the presentation is about as deep as any other stand-up comic.  This is observational humor with situational highlights.  As the header shows, however, she is quotable. For me, the highpoint of the content was the section on intelligent design and the mind-brain problem.  The rest was just some woman yelling at an audience about the troubles in her life.

The Loeb Epictetus (2 vol.) and Diogenes Laertius (2 vol.) are better investments than the Marcus Aurelius, but there's no putting down the Imperator.

Meus fidelis vernula: they are my loyal servants.  I own them both, already.  I also have a small ppb of the Meditations, just for reference, like the Cliff's Notes.  Obviously, it is only with the Greek than you meet the man himself.
It is fitting that Marcus Aurelius was played by Sir Alec Guiness, who was later Obi Wan Kinobi.  It's like a holy trinity, isn't it?

Alec Guiness as anything. The Ladykillers is brilliant.
