What utter nonsense.  I don't need Charles Rangel -- or anyone else, for that matter -- to make me feel like a "somebody".  Elitist liberal arrogance gives me a rash.

Ed, Rangel's one of the biggest (no double entendre intended) and most corrupt scumbags in Congress. I have always enjoyed voting Libertarian against him. (The Republican usually gets under 20%, so my vote for marijuana legalization is symbolic.) But could you give the context of this quote or why it so perturbed you? Compared to his advocacy of reinstating the draft it sounds benign.

Ted,

The context of the quote is found in the links. Rangel said this about the Cadillac DeVille that he leases with taxpayer dollars. Another representative is leasing a car for over $900 a month on the backs of the taxpayers.

Rangel just gloats about it, though -- and that's not an attitude-of-gratitude. I think he speaks for most (>50% of all of the U.S. Congress), the rest are just more wily about it.

I wanted to know what it was specifically that you thought was objectionable. I've found the guy objectionable for twenty years.

Now THERE'S the guy to play Wesley Mouch.....;-)

[of course he'd be playing himself, but what more authentic typecasting....]

Ted,

We both agree that Rangel is a corrupt, counterfeiting value-fraud (a CCVF). I was just thrown-back by his haughty response to the question of why he uses our money to pay for his car, that's all.

I think it's important that folks be reminded not only that we have Big Gov, but that we have real enemies of the homeland (from the objective point of view) in positions of government power, protecting and defending Big Gov -- and THEY profess to be the good guys.

Recognizing enemies at home is at least as important as recognizing those abroad -- perhaps moreso (due to the fact we're the most powerful nation on Earth).

I wasn't challenging you, Ed. I guess it's because I have lived in or near his congressional district for 17 years that I found mentioning him now a bit weird. Of course those of you lucky enough not to live in his district can be excused for being shocked when you do come across him.

Ted,

My condolences for your having to live within this excuse-of-a-man's district. He says boldly what I believe most (>50% of Congress) think to themselves quietly -- that they are the lucky ones in charge of largesse, and that means that they will never have to deal with the same problems that citizens do, not in the same capacity as we do.

And I think that's a shame.
