| Train Wreck in LA Posted by Michael E. Marotta on 9/15, 10:49am | ||
| Civilization is not collapsing, but wrecks like this are all-too-common. Acculturation in a society based on achievement and personal responsibility would be to standards that prevent and mitigate disasters such as this. The engineer was not even an employee of the line. Seeking to avoid the responsibilities consequent to being an employer, the line hired through an out-sourcing agency that provides temporary workers... who, apparently, temporarily fail to do the job for which they are hired... No doubt, the managers of the line enjoyed good reviews from their managers for keeping costs down. That points to the fact that the Metrolink is a public entity, not private. Note, also, that the company publicist, Denise Tyrell, was fired for giving out the facts. (Will any of the line's publicly employed managers lose their jobs? Will the board resign? Will anyone lose money because of this?) The lesson here seems to be not to ride behind the engine... And, if you work for Metrolink, and want to keep your job, don't tell the truth. | ||
