Deck of Cards; a Courtesan's Book of Ilusions is my first poem after a five-year hiatus. I am concerned here with the needs and psyche of the artist and literary philosopher in a world which I feel, in this respect, has little changed in too many centuries. Although something of an oversimplification, I can best introduce what follows with a quote from Veronica Franco of Dangerous Beauty: "I regret that there was no other way open to me; I do not regret my life".
