War for Men's Minds

One Year of SoloHQ
by Jeff Landauer

On May 1, 2002, we launched SoloHQ. We started with 83 articles in the database from the old Solo site and the Free Radical, and in the last year have added 291 -- averaging more than 5 per week -- for a total of 374. Our authors have done a tremendous and prolific job. They are what really make SoloHQ, so please, keep up the submissions, and don't be afraid to send in an article if you've never sent anything in before!

We have grown a good-sized audience and are attracting quite a few web searches via Google due to the number of other sites linking to SoloHQ. For example, 5400 people have read the article Military Draft from the Objectivism 101 section, most of whom searched for "Military Draft" on Google -- where our article currently ranks 9th out of 986,000. Hopefully we have enlightened a few random people this way.

Waging the war to win men's minds

In the last six months we've added a Submission Guidelines FAQ, new article icons and categories, and a poetry section. We managed to survive the first successful hacking attack against us that deleted huge swaths from the server's hard drive, but fortunately we had a backup that wasn't too old. Also, there's the new War Room tank!

On October 21, Free-Market.Net featured SoloHQ as their page of the week:

Ordinarily I wouldn't wade through the literature of an Objectivist organization. That's not because I think Rand was wrong, it's just that I find most Objectivist literature to be a bit, well, dry. But the SOLO website drew me in and kept me there. Instead of simply pontificating from on high, SOLO provides excellent tools for effectively communicating Objectivism to the uninitiated. They provide an introduction to the principles of philosophy, educational material for teaching Objectivism to children, a plan for franchising Objectivism, and a treatise on the importance of art to the cause of Objectivism. Most of all, they proudly proclaim that reason and passion are not contradictory but complementary. If only we can get that point across to all the deadpan Randroids out there.

All in all, SoloHQ has grown in the last year and I hope that it keeps growing. Be part of the revolution -- send articles!
