Wonder
by Andrew Schwartz

My perceptiveness grows
like the wings of a flower
granted new strength

and means to travel

flying through green lights
and their starburst patter

staying with me

like a sunrise

in a prairie

and a willow

can speak words of wisdom
if you listen to its silence

if you speak the willow’s language
if you grant the willow’s softness

if you bring to light new manners
of awareness and perception

like a palm tree

in a meadow

like the snow

it settles softly
with the gracefulness of springtime

and it wanders toward the distance
where it sits upon a window

and it beckons hither, yonder

and it speaks in fragrant stillness

and I wait

and wonder…
