They are jumping to life and freedom, as individual sovereign beings, in love.

Michael,

This is a very beautiful work, emotionally challenging one of the most primitive of all limitations of life on earth - gravity.

The exaltation of the expressions and postures of these lovers as they fly in the face of gravity is now image that is part of my inner thoughts.

Even the emphasis on the feet, which is man's basic physical contact with - and means of movement on - earth because of gravity, highlights this emotion.

Congratulations.

Michael

The shading on the woman makes her look hairy.  Also, if one were not to hear the title of the piece, it would be unclear as to whether they were in mid-air or sitting on their butts.

Pete, I'm not Michael, but I think the purpose of this drawing was to visualize and make concrete the critical components of the painting he is about to work on. I think the same things though.

I bet the subjects were sitting while he was drawing-- unless he drew them while orbiting earth or in one of those diving planes : ).

I like the way their feet are stretched out in front of them. They have propelled themselves towards their goal with enthusiasm, and they have their feet stretched out to meet it. They're not just jumping up, to fall back down to where they were before. They are jumping toward some place new.

Pete, keep in mind that it is a study for a future piece.

My mistake - I suppose I should read more than the first sentence of the description before posting....duh!
