Great article.

It always amazes me that some of the politicians, who claim to be ardent opponents of slavery, also advocate wealth confiscation, forced association, and restricting (non-coercive) behavior.

What in their minds reconciles these facts? How do they not see the parallels between slavery and the policies they promote?

Or is it that they do see the parallels, are they just political opportunists, supporting slavery when politically useful?

The advocates of forced association will do everything to avoid using the phrase "forced association," in order to try and justify their advocacy of it.

Especially in a political context based on free association.

"Politics" ... "Polite" : without the use of force or violence.

A question that needs to be asked loudly and often in our political context: can a paradigm that embraces forced association even be called "politics?"

The USSC is dealing with that question right now. What is unsettling is, the answer could come down to a 5-4 split one way or the other, when it should be a slam dunk.

regards,
Fred

This is a great article! Thanks for finding it!

Some relevant thoughts of mine:

- I'd disagree that one's "right" to self ownership/freedom is innate. Instead I'd say that either processes (slavery or capitalism) can be implemented in a society, and that if a group/individual within a society wants ownership/freedom/capitalism, he must use retaliatory force to make it so... otherwise those who would like to enslave will do so!

- Quick comeback to any who suggest that redistribution is good for (insert children/impoverished/minority): "So what you are saying is that its good to kill a person who created resources in order to save the life of another whom no one would volunteer to help?"

- Quick overview of where our society is going: "Imagine a society where: People have/afford few or no children if they honestly produce resources to provide for them (Self Sufficient Producers SSP). A man has tons of children if he mates with all the women he can, and a woman has a child every time she becomes fertile, and neither man nor woman work to produce resources for themselves or their children, instead they democratically vote for others in society to be forced to give resources to them (Dependent Leeching Consumers DLC). SSP will quickly become the minority to the higher birthing rate of the DLC. Standard of living will go down as the DLC:SSP ratio goes up since more and more people will be living on each SSP's produce. Hopefully DLCs will not sack and destroy all SSP property when the DLC:SSP ratio becomes so overwhelming that DLCs and SLPs begin to die from malnourishment. Maybe one day SSPs will attain the technology/band together to protect themselves from DLCs, despite DLC majority. Maybe one day SSPs will colonize a new place in the world or beyond, and be able to live free from DLCs.
