Looking at Iraq now, I doubt that the Polish plan would have helped much. Sure, it would have "saved" american lives (lives of people who willingly risked their lives)... but I don't think Iraq is going to be much of a democracy any time soon, nor do I think it will be capitalistic.
Maybe we should have just:
1. Removed Saddam from power.
2. Told the Iraqi people "You are free to pursue your dreams now. Have at it."
3. If another human-life-mutilator comes into power, repeat.
Let the people in the land of Iraq build their own defence, justice, and economy.
