Here is a great source for a "objectivist" approach to exercise.

exercisecertification.com

Diet Coke gives you cavities? That's news to me.

AFAIK, Diet Coke will accelerate the formation of cavities once the enamel is damaged, because it's acidic. So too are most citrus fruit, & my dentist advised my brother, as a child, not to eat lemons as they could damage his teeth as they developed.

Yes, he used to eat lemons like most people eat oranges :-)

Good luck and have fun with the physical training, Christy! The rewards of diet and/or exercise will far outweigh the pain.

Thanks for that Duncan.
Yes, I remember the old stories of Coke being able to remove the rust from an old nail.
The point is then that the enamel has to be damaged first. So, if you keep your teeth in good condition you shouldn't get any decay from sucrose-free acidic foodstuffs such as Diet Coke and Lemons.

I remember seeing an article on the news not too long ago about some Iraqi kid who got his legs blown off by an unexploded American cluster bomb. Maybe you're not in such bad shape after all. Regards, Richy, New Zealand.

Yes, that is terrible. But be consoled, Richy, knowing that the young child's medical costs will be dealt with by the American taxpayer, as well as whatever cradle-to-grave entitlements the UN can enact there. A quirky postscript: Saddam Hussein would have, for sure, wept copiously at the loss of the little tyke's leg--the man was such a big harmless bear at heart. Him or his sons would surely have made the boy feel less ostracized, by amputating the legs of his parents and friends.

The body as a temple, yes. I wrote a poem recently that plays on that theme. That section of the poem went something like this:

Her body is not a temple but
the birthplace of all that is holy,
and I worship it, her, in my mind.
She is my Hope diamond and I
am cursed.

It (the poem) went on a bit about this and that, but basically just sits on the page staring back and taunting me. It's enough to make you want to have a beer in a hotel lobby with a long-haired punk in Chicago very late at night.
