Thanks to both of you.  Though the message is a simple one, I find that many put it to the wayside in favor of being comfortable.  I hate to see a dream go to waste.

A short perfect call to action. If there ever was an article I wish I could vote for a hundred times this is it. Well done Jennifer.

Jennifer, a wonderful expression and one I share profoundly with you.

Of course, the tricky part is the "how". You said: "Pursue them with reckless abandon.  Break the rules if you have to." I also enjoy the sentiment but I do so hate bashing my head against a wall.

Rand means many things for me but what I am especially thankful for is her characterization of ruthlessness of her heroes. I cannot tell you how many wimps I have heard express to me that I am lucky, that it is easy for me because of my passion, and that they have it hard.

On the other hand I have many great friends and several of them here, such as you, who know that the realization of dreams are built on dedication, talent, intelligence, wisdom, and discernment; they don't waste their time on bullshit.

I think it is a colossal error of judgment of those that think that dreams should unfold easily, for the people who live them it is more like exhilaration combined overwhelming single-focused action...get rid of everything in the way of your dreams and go for it! The issues or people in the way don't really care and the fun part those that do come along for the wild ride.

Michael

Thank you John.  Your appreciation and understanding is most gratifying.

Michael, I know exactly what you mean.  I remember a friend once exclaimed how "lucky" I was to have started several companies, as if they had materialized out of thin air because I had wished for them, or that I had a genetic predisposition for creating successful businesses.  I wanted to slap her.  She did not see the sleepless nights, the empty refrigerator, the body wilted with exhaustion in pursuit of a goal.  To me, breaking the rules means defying those who say "it cannot be done."

Which leads me to a favorite quote:

Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.
--Anonymous

Thank you Jennifer, sentiments such as these should encourage every individual to overcome all obstacles in the pursuit of their own dreams. I'm sure I read a quote somewhere to the effect that our biggest regrets are always over those things we fail to do.

Jennifer,
This came up for me as a random past article and I'm so glad it did.  It's simply beautiful and beyond that, inspiring.  Thank you.

Thank you, Jason.  :)  In a way, it is my response to Rand's "spark" quote.

This article is nice and it is due a revival. Also, to its credit, it reminded me of an excellent quote by Theodore Roosevelt:
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
