| | What constitutes a 'Rand' hero in the real world?
This is a topic for which I am always fascinated to see the responses. If you follow the model of Galt, the hero was a guy in dirty work clothes down on the rail lines. Hardly someone that would stick out in a world elevating self sacrifice.
A Randian hero isn't necessarily some uncompromising head of a large corporation who is fighting a system of leeches and feeding the very system of the leech. Sure, there were those in the book(s) too but they didn't quite get it. Their fight was a futile one destined for disaster until the real hero, Galt, came along to show them the error in their thinking.
No. A Rand hero is a guy that could be that head of industry but won't. He has turned his back on feeding that which will steal his own uniqueness and only provides that system with the minimum it requires while he saves the true product of his mind for himself and those that he knows will appreciate it.
If any of you want to see a good example, there's one riding a lawn mower for close to minimum wage enjoying a sunny day before retreating home to write, program and tinker with various other pursuits. I am John Galt!
