I'd like to point out what appears to be a typo.  In the third paragraph, fourth sentence, the word "exist" should be "exists", I believe.

And in the fifth paragraph "epistemological believe" should be "epistemological belief".

Anyone see Will Wilkinson's quick post on metaphysics? Link here (via Tyler Cowen).

I know that Mr. Wilkinson was intentionally using academic jargon. My first real exposure to philosophy/metaphysics was via Objectivism, and when I eventually took a college course on it, I had a really hard time understanding what the professors were talking about.

Follow-on thoughts:

1) Was I confused merely because I had assimilated a background of "objectivist jargon" rather than "academic jargon", or are Objectivist writings actually more clear? (Or is it merely that Objectivist writing is intended for an "intelligent layperson" audience, while academic writings on metaphysics are intended for the grad students and professors?)

2) Is it worth trying to have some sort of bridge or translation table to the world of academic philosophy?
