Hi seeing as the civilians do not have the privilege of the state police defensive driving facility, the next best thing is to find a hillbilly farming that would let you take advantage of an idle field and let your friend take the car out for a tear around the field until she gets acclimated with the engineering of the vehicle. Go along for the ride and have a blast letting her have a go at it.

LOL!  This was a great story, Luke! <g>

It reminds me of how my poor old dad tried to teach me how to drive a stick shift. It didn't work out, but my boyfriend had me taught in an afternoon without any yelling.

I have to agree with Harley.  Hill-hoppin' can do wonders for your driving confidence. (Plus, it's way fun.)

I know it's been a long time, but congratulations to Leslie anyway!

I found learning to drive relatively painless, and teaching my sister and brother-in-law a rewarding experience. I suggest the rest of you chose your relatives more wisely.

Back when I was developing software, my supervisor was looking over my shoulder as the program I was demoing crashed. I said, as developers often do, "That shouldn't have happened." And then I opined that it clearly the fault of something other than my code. He was a wise old fellow and just smiled and said, "It not the horse, it's the rider."

I came to love that saying (although, not right then)... It's so neat the way people's brow's furrow up when you say it, as they ponder just what you're implying and whether or not they should object.

LOL, Luke!

I am currently in the process of teaching my 16-year-old to drive, so I can relate.

Oh, and doesn't the snow and ice just add to the pleasures of teaching your teen to drive?
It's all so exciting.  ;)
