I'll have to check it out, haven't heard it but another genre piece is the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack... very strong very heroic you can almost follow the story from the music alone.

I enjoy soundtracks, so I'll definitely grab this one. I also have to concur with Landon on the Conan soundtrack....simply great.

Could it be? Another SOLO/RoRist that appreciates the modern orchestral movie soundtracks as much as me? I have this CD, Horner is in my top-ten. Who are your favorite composers Luke?

Stephen,

Didn't Horner do the soundtrack for Star Trek II? I have that, and always enjoyed it.

Ethan, Horner scored Star Trek II and Star Trek III.  I was a little disappointed he did not stay on board for the remaining classic Trek films, but I do not know the reasons for the change of composers in subsequent movies.  I suspect that schedules drove those choices but I know Star Trek IV had so much humor that perhaps its creators opted for a lighter theme.

Stephen, my favorite composers include James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, and Danny Elfman.  I have albums by other composers such as Batman Forever, etc.  But I find Horner the most pleasing to enjoy as background music while I perform other tasks.

Ah Danny Elfman, Tim Burton's go-to guy. I love his Spiderman theme, and who could forget the breakfast theme in PeeWee's Big Adventure? lol

If you liked the triumphant horns of Krull you definitely need to find some compilation CDs by Hanz Zimmer. The man behind scores like Gladiator, The Rock, Crimson Tide, Hunt for Red October, Mission Impossible, or Backdraft. I'll assume you have John William's marches such as 1941, Superman, Raiders and Olympic themes.

Superman is classic.  It's among my favorites (including of course the star wars trilogies). I loved the original Batman soundtrack but on top of being Burton's go to guy but he's also the go to super-hero guy in general.  For a guy as into super-heroes as I am it bothers me to see characters as dis-similar as Batman, Spider-Man, and the Hulk portrayed by painfully similar themes.

Elfman's themes are strong and they pull you along for a great ride, but they all start to seem alike after a while.

That is my assessment.
