Hmm, may be I should really sit down and learn about Ms. Ayn Rand's life. I started "The Passion of Ayn Rand" but didn't finish. Any other recommendations of good Rand biographies?
Don Hauptman and I are coordinating a shindig in NYC for February 2, 2005 to celebrate Rand's Centennial. I will post more details as they become available.
I plan to dress up in a black cape and put on a dutch bob wig and run down the street brandishing a cigarette holder shouting "A is A, movie house!" "A is A, emporium!" while the second concerto blares from my boom box, followed by the Galt's Gulch Mummer Brigade.
Hey, it's Philadelphia, stranger things have happened...
Let's see... I figure I'll keep an eye on the papers and see if she sees her shadow or not. And based on that, I'll determine if we're going to have six more weeks of mysticism/altruism/collectivism, or...
Oh, wait. I'm thinking of the other celebrity we'll be hearing about on February 2. Never mind.

Luke, Thanks for the recommendation. I will get the video - I guess that's a lazy way to learn things quick - perfect for me! I am of course very interested in Barbara's book. Last time I got her book from the library and it was due before I could finish it. I probably should get myself a copy so I can read it at my own pace.
Happy Holidays!

Showtime made The Passion of Ayn Rand into a movie some years ago. It focuses mostly on the affair, though, and only briefly mentions the core tenets of Objectivism. I should warn you that it has some steamy sex scenes which I and many others I know found shocking and offensive. I had no need to see a topless, aging Ayn get done doggie style by the youthful Nathaniel. These gratuitous Hollywood sex shows ruined the movie for me and my colleagues. I heard that the scenes got filmed and added without Barbara's knowledge, but I cannot comment further.
In any case, if you have sufficient curiosity and like videos, consider this one. I like Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life much better.
I must agree with Luke, the movie left a lot to be desired. BUT, the book is wonderful. Miss Branden's book had a great impact on me years ago. I recommend it highly.
Here's my advice, grab the BOOK - The Passion of Ayn Rand, and The DVD, A Sense of Life.
