Many of the Ayn Rand Meetups worldwide currently have no Organizers. In the interest of promoting SOLO globally, I assumed the temporary role of Organizer for all the unclaimed Ayn Rand Meetups, upgraded the names, descriptions and photos to promote SOLO, then left. I also uploaded photos to all claimed Ayn Rand Meetups that allowed it.
I've never been to a Meetup meeting, but there is one coming up soon in Chicago.... If you are in the area, try to drop in Clarkes Restaurant at 2:30. Hope to see you there.
I think promoting through Solo is a good idea. I saw that you had the logo on the Chicago site. I took the liberty of redesigning it http://www.wheelerdesignworks.com/solo.jpg
The code you are looking for is <img src="http://www.wheelerdesignworks.com/solo.jpg">. make sure there is no space between the less than symbol and the "img". Also, if you do a "Preview with Spell Check", it will show the code instead of the picture. You have to press "Post/Preview" to actually see the picture.
I'd rather not have too much variance on the SOLO logo, since it adds to confusion. The little guy Luther made is not part of our logo, but part of his stuff. Our logo can be found here:
Joe, I thought that the one on all the meet-up sites was a special logo made for the clubs and I tried to simplify it by removing the annoying hour glass. Just putting up the regular logo is actually a better idea and it keeps the branding consistent.

I was actually thinking about simplifying the Clubs banner to what you suggested. My only critique is that the banner needs to list the SOLO Web site address so people who see it know exactly where to go. We cannot embed a link within the JPG when uploading a photo to Meetup.
Can we upgrade the banner to do that? I would recommend adding another red line below the current one and then listing the URL below that in the same color of "SOLO Blue" lettering of RGB=0,59,176.

You can just join a Meetup near you. If you want a SOLO Michigan page here at this site, Joe can create one for you and make you SOLO Michigan Coordinator if that is what you want.

For some reason, the message board at http://www.solohq.com/Forum/Clubs/ is not updating to index the latest post to this thread. I almost missed this discussion except that I have the messages for this board e-mailed to me.

I really appreciate the effort you put into the new logo. I will work with Joe to see what we can do to employ the current banner in Meetup in the most useful way possible.
Regarding the hourglass, I can see why it might annoy some people. I like it because it symbolizes the value of time, which must always be spent and which is the great equalizer of all people, i.e. we all get the same 24 hours in a day and our only choice is in how to spend them. But if I am not there to explain that, then I guess it does not make sense to people, does it?
Luke, We're doing a vote on the Solo affiliation this Saturday. The vote can go either way. I saw that some meet-up groups have attacked your tactics. Is there something I can offer the group as far as unique selling points, resources and I think there will be questions about how independent Solo groups are. For example, this group seems to be libertarian/anti-war and some are aware of Linz and his stance on such issues and are rather hestitant to align with Solo. I need some coaching here in order to communicate the costs and benefits of this alliance.
Also a couple suggestions for the clubs home page. On the left menu can we add articles, links and a resources spot where Luke and others can upload files that would be of benefits to all the groups. Oh, and can I be the Chicago liason?

Kat, for those who are anti-war libertarian types, be sure to emphasize that notables like Tibor Machan and Chris Sciabarra hold the anti-war stand as well and have continued their warm welcome at SOLO. So while they may incur the occasional verbal wrath of Linz, he clearly demonstrates a willingness to let opponents air their views here at SOLO.
I certainly would welcome you as a SOLO Illinois Club Coordinator.
As nearly as I can tell, Linz and the other SOLO leaders support letting local clubs engage in activism according to the locals' own best judgment. So I see a great deal of leeway in what you can do. You should note the poll some time ago that suggested people look to local clubs mainly for (1) Friendship Formation, (2) Getting Laid, and (3) Knowledge Acquisition, and plan accordingly.
As for the SOLO Clubs main page, be thinking about what categories you would want for the left hand menu. Articles and so forth can be submitted through the usual channels and then linked from the main part of that page. Be sure to take full advantage of your local Meetup message board as well.
Thanks for pointing out that the forum isn't updating. I added a bunch of software updates to try to speed things up, and one of them must have done something bad.
Can you make a SOLO Michigan page here, and make me the Michigan Coordinator? I am not the most social guy in the world, but I think somebody has to do it. I can at least provide a place for people to make friends, get laid, and gain knowledge.
Also, would you have any interest in sharing the source of solohq.com, so that I can develop it too? I could just submit patches, and if you like them, then you can include them. I think I am pretty damn good at creating quick data structures, code organization, and prediction algorithms. I could probably increase the speed of the site.
Finally, I think this place is great. And I think "Importance of Philosophy" is one of the greatest resources for guiding human behavior and thought.
Dean, it is good to see you on board as SOLO Michigan Coordinator. Thanks for volunteering! Take a look at SOLO Florida and some of the other Local Club pages for ideas on content.
Joe, I do not see SOLO Michigan on the main page yet. Perhaps you are waiting for Dean to add content.
What happened to the "Moderation at SOLO" thread in the General Discussion? I can't seem to find it. Maybe I just have not got enough sleep lately.
I think I answered all of my questions already about submitting pages and such. I probably will not need help on code : ). Would you mind deleting the page named "test"?
