While in the Meetup site I went to a section called promote your group and saw that they have a link and detailed instructions for posting on Craig's List. Here is the ad I just posted for the Chicago Group. It goes up almost immediately.
Here is the instructions from Meetup in case you want to follow the same format but are not affilitated with a Meetup group. The HTML code in the gray box will need to be modified for the group. If you are not familiar with HTML, let me know and I'll help you out. Also, the instructions say don't use your email, but it does not go through without one, but there is an option to create a craigs list email. Maybe Luke can set up a SoloClub yahoo email address for this type of thing.
Choose the most appropriate city from the list to the right. If you don't see your city, take a second glance -- you'll probably see a nearby city or metropolitan area. (While we can't guarantee that your location will be covered, Craigslist is constantly expanding, and over 80% of Meetup Groups will currently find an appropriate location.)
Step 2: Pick your category
Once you've chosen your city, click the post to classifieds link in the upper left-hand corner of the Craigslist page. Then, since you're posting a listing for an event, choose event and then events or classes, depending on which category your event fits into best. Depending on your city, you may now need to choose a neighborhood. If asked, pick the one that best describes the location of your event.
Step 3: Complete the form
Now you'll see a form you need to fill out to create your listing. For event listings, fill out the form as follows:
Event Start Date: The date of your event.
Event End Date: Leave this blank unless your event spans more than one day.
Posting Title: This can be whatever you'd like, but it should provide a general description of the listing. The name of your upcoming Meetup will probably work well. For example, "The Seattle Spanish Language September Meetup".
Specific Location: Enter a few words that describe the neighborhood or venue location. In New York City, for example, you might enter "Midtown".
Posting Description: Copy and paste the code below into this field to create your listing.

Notice the section of the form titled "Your email address". After entering your email address (which is required to post to Craigslist) we highly recommend selecting the radio button labeled "do not show any email address". It's important that you choose that option, otherwise you'll likely get unwanted junk mail.
Step 4: Verify your email
The final step is verifying your email address and publishing your listing. A few minutes after accepting the terms of service, you should receive an email from Craigslist that contains a link that will verify your email address and show you a preview of your listing. Click the Publish button, and you're done! Your listing has been posted to Craigslist for everyone to see. Save the notification email; you can use it later to edit your listing, or to delete it from Craigslist altogether.

Thanks for sharing this, Kat. I took a look at the Craig's List main page and had trouble making sense of it. I just followed your instructions via the Meetup form for the next Merritt Island event. Once my Meetup Plus membership expires, I doubt I will use Craig's List unless someone shows me an easy way to do it.
Here is a step-by-step summary of posting to Craigslist bypassing the meetup. I am using the Merritt Island group for my example and the HTML code follows and should be edited to apply to the specific event.
Select the nearest major city from the list on the right half of the screen. I clicked "Orlando"
Click "Post to Classified" link in the upper left corner right under the words craigslist
A screen will pop up that says, "Posting on Orlando list" and asks for posting type. Click event.
Next screen asks for category. Click "events" (or class if it is a class)
Fill in the form fields with dates, title of the ad, and for"posting description" paste in the HTML code (example below). Add your email address. You have the option of posting it or having your messages forwarded to you from craigslist.
Craigslist will send you a confirmation with a link that you go to in order to complete the process. Follow the link to make any edits or remove your ad. It will not be posted until you click publish. After it is posted it will contain a link to the ad.
