This was inspired by one of the articles below. I am curious: in space, is there any government? Of course not, right? If not, would not a settler on the moon be free? If so, let's all go to the moon. :-)

But seriously, hundreds of years from know, who knows? If private enterprise enters space, does government need to follow?

Interesting thought, huh.

Well, there's a government aboard the starships: the Captain's word is law. There should be just enough government to preserve individual rights, and I doubt that any of the nanny-statists have the balls for space pioneering.

It seems that even in space Man would require government. (though I would like to change the term "government" to "advocate" or "tolerated protector".) If more than one man lives in space, and plans on interacting with other dudes, there must be a set standard of interaction. As dry as that sounds, it would help prevent fraud, and deal punishment out to those who commit it. I don't think Man needs governANCE in space. Just someone with a big friggin stick, whom he ALLOWS to watch his back for him.
