By my name, I've been lurking here for a while on and off. Having read your articles on libertarianism, I decided to see what libertarians thought of objectivists.

Interesting enough. I'll let the passage speak for itself. On page 4 of the link concerning Ayn Rand. I'll post when there is another article expanding on the issue.

Any thoughts?

Let's see, somebody writing a HOWTO for running for office as a Libertarian claims that overt Objectivism is political suicide. The person writing that doesn't represent all libertarians, and there are probably people in the Virginia Libertarian Party who disagree with him.

Perhaps so. However, in my traffiking with them, I have found half of them hostile. The other half is so gooey-inclusive and non-discriminatory that their support doesn't matter very much, if at all.

Well, considering how often Objectivists flame Libertarians, I can't blame some of the Libertarians for assuming that all Objectivists are Randroids.

Here is the part that mentions Ayn Rand:

"First, burn all your Ayn Rand books. Perform an exorcism. Curse
them. Have someone spank you every time you use the phrase
“rational self-interest.” Ayn Rand’s moral philosophy is poison to any
political movement. Purging the libertarian movement of the Randroid
Curse is one of the most powerful things we can do to boost our
movement. I know this one hurts, and many of you disbelieve in the
necessity/desirability of this step, so I will make the detailed case in a
later essay."

I would like see his "detailed case". Right now he doesnt give us (as readers) any arguments (as usually) as to why we should abandon it. Does anyone know if he has presented his arguments in another page? If not I would consider sending him an e-mail and asking him to roll down the case and present his arguments, and I would also comment on his lacking of them in this document. Bashing without arguments doesnt make a good statement.

Hey guys,
I emailed this Dr Milsted fellow who wrote that essay, and asked for an explanation of his above statement. In response, he sent me a link to the essay in which he explains himself.
Thanks,
J

Don't you love it when libertarians argue that liberty is not in our self-interest? Wow!

Nice job following up on this thread, Jeremy. I like your motivation.

Thanks Joseph. Dr Milsted sent me a follow-up message that explained more of his theory. I can't say I agree with any of the things he says. I'm not certain he has studied Objectivism in its entirety; just the self-interest parts. But hey, at least he's willing to explain.
