Many people think that the establishment of child labor laws, right to vote, and non-descrimination policies have helped our society. We are better because of them.

One criticism that is made against subjectivism is that it does not account for our belief that our moral outlook is improving. If subjectivism says that there are no objective moral values, then there are no moral truths taht we could be gradually understanding better or moving toward. The argument then, is that subjectivism has no way to account for the sense that objectivists are at LEAST trying to become morally better people to improve the status of society.

Question: How would a sophisticated subjectivist respond to this criticism?

Really, I don't see how there could be ANY response to it, from a Subjectivist ("sophisticated" or otherwise.)
Since, according to Subjectivism, there are no "facts" (of any kind), but merely subjective impressions or preference, then there can BE no notions like 'improvement'.

DarkEdict: you've hit the nail on the head. Subjectivism is nothing less than the repudiation of all values, of any kind.

That's why we fight against it so strenuously.

Thanks for the question!
