If God is good...

Why is "playing God" so bad?
Why is a "God complex" such a truly awful thing to have?
Why is "Lording over someone" so contemptible?

What are we tactitly admitting here about the nature of God when we use these terms?  Aren't we saying that God is a petty, sadistic tyrant, if, when we model ourselves after him, we are petty, sadistic tyrants?

It's obvious Orion.

It is the same principle as the Greeks had. If man tries to take the place of God then he is guilty of hubris.

So, in other words, pop culture has it that "god is Great", therefore mankind don't you try and get above your station - you are beneath God!

These are all examples of hubris. Claiming to be as great as God.

It is also a good way of keeping your subjects in line.

Priests, Kings, Emperors, Rulers and Politicians probably realised that if their subjects started to believe that they were as good or great as God - the Rulers (that say that God is on their side) would lose their mystique - and their authority would be challenged or even overturned!!!!!

Marcus,

Yep... it's all about mind-control... Giving the "human monkeys" a "superstitial silverback", an invisible "alpha male" that they must have in order to be "happy".

But then again, maybe most people really do want this, and can't get their sh!t together any other way.
