It is the same principle as the Greeks had. If man tries to take the place of God then he is guilty of hubris.
So, in other words, pop culture has it that "god is Great", therefore mankind don't you try and get above your station - you are beneath God!
Why is "playing God" so bad? Why is a "God complex" such a truly awful thing to have? Why is "Lording over someone" so contemptible?
These are all examples of hubris. Claiming to be as great as God.
It is also a good way of keeping your subjects in line.
Priests, Kings, Emperors, Rulers and Politicians probably realised that if their subjects started to believe that they were as good or great as God - the Rulers (that say that God is on their side) would lose their mystique - and their authority would be challenged or even overturned!!!!!
