Congressman Rangle tried to pull a similar stunt this year and the bill got only two votes. It will be a cold day in Hell before there is a draft again.

Congressman Rangle tried to pull a similar stunt this year and the bill got only two votes. It will be a cold day in Hell before there is a draft again.

This (S89) is the Senate counterpart of that same bill (HR163). Rangel didn't want these to actually pass; he was just trying to make some weird protest against the Iraq war, and ended up voting against his own bill when the Republicans brought it to a vote to quash the rumors about the coming draft.
