I've also known Marxists who read novels, philosophy and nonfiction, but who were quite idle. I don't consider being well-versed or even intellectual as necessarily driving productivity.
Individualism and merit-oriented views would certainly contribute to it. For someone who already held these and just discovered Objectivism as something that largely fit their existing de-facto philosophy, I doubt it would change their effectiveness much. Those who discovered the philosophy and it led them to such views, are another story.
