I've also known Marxists who read novels, philosophy and nonfiction, but who were quite idle. I don't consider being well-versed or even intellectual as necessarily driving productivity.

Individualism and merit-oriented views would certainly contribute to it. For someone who already held these and just discovered Objectivism as something that largely fit their existing de-facto philosophy, I doubt it would change their effectiveness much. Those who discovered the philosophy and it led them to such views, are another story.

What other historical figure would you evaluate based on a biography of someone he/she publicly denounced the way Rand denounced Nathaniel Branden? Thomas, it is a methodological point more than anything else.

I hope you continue to post - we need more gems like these.
