Go to that link, and you'll read a VERY disturbing article. One thing in particular: that the National ID legislation was sadly passed recently, so now, we'll have these.

I can't help but think though, that so much of this could've been avoided...but not anytime recently. Allow me to explain.

See, my dad and I are moving soon, to another part of the state, and last night, while I continued packing, my friend called, and stopped by. I decided to watch as he played one of his latest video games- Destroy All Humans( great game, btw). There was one part in the game that really stuck in my mind, because it REALLY reflected the time it was based on. See, the game takes place, ironically enough, in the early 1950s( how's THAT for a perfect Alien Space game?), and there's one part in the game where your character has taken control of the mayor of one of the towns, and has to present a speech to the townsfolk, explaining all the recent "Disturbances", and make sure that your cover doesn't get blown by saying the wrong thing. Luckily, I was able to help my friend out, in this part, because I'm a huge history buff, and I know how people thought back then( to a point, naturally).

At one point, the mayor blames weather balloons, and Communist threats for the recent "sightings", and basically blabs on about the town being a bunch of great "patriotic Americans"...HERE'S what stuck in my mind...it was about how the characters in the game REACTED when he said that.

In all honesty, they acted about as sincere with their patriotism as most Americans do when it comes to their "belief in G-d", and the pledge of Allegiance. "But Russell", I bet you're thinkin' "that's just a game"- true, but it was also a DEAD-ON re-creation of the mindset most Americans DID have back then, sadly.

Any American who actually believed that FDR's New Deal was anything CLOSE to American had basically NO idea what freedom was even about. And then to have the nerve to actually claim they were serving freedom by being DRAFTED into war, to fight a dictator who had even sent FDR ADMIRATION letters in the past. And that was the problem- as far as I'm concerned, Americans at that time paid LIP SERVICE to freedom- they couldn't actually BACK their love for freedom- in fact, they basically just lived by the mindset of "you dont' question authority- you just accept it"...which btw, is 180 degrees the OPPOSITE way from freedom.

Face it- you can claim to be as patriotic as you want to, but unless you can back freedom, and tell people why it's so great, you're virtually no better than any of those oppressed bastards in one of the thousands of police states around the world.

America did not love freedom back during WWII- in fact, they barely even loved freedom very much back during the very BEGINNING of America. They loved the IDEA of CALLING themselves "Freedom fighters", but at the end of the day, what they truly believed really made them no better, and I'm surprised nobody else in other countries is smart enough to see that, due to this, most Americans were and ARE still JUST LIKE THEM.

So, how does this fit in to what I started out with? Ah, very simple- those Americans back in that time....they had children. You know those children better as the BABY BOOMERS. Now, how can you teach your child to love your country if YOU don't even really know why you love it, and are just paying lip service? Bingo- you can't. Those kids picked up on that, and became known as Hippies- most of them Communist Sympathisers, who later passed legislation that hurt our great country even MORE. And now these people have pushed for, and successfully passed legislation for National ID cards.

If only those same kids had been taught how great their country really is, and what makes their country so great. Then again, if only their PARENTS had really BELIEVED how great their country really is, and had indeed KNOWN what makes this country so great....
