Embedded Links

If you wish to make some of the words in your sentence become a link follow these instructions:

(A) Please follow this LINK to see the Drum Boogie video
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qRjQzSwmEHw

becomes

(B) Please follow this (a href="http://youtube.com/watch?v=qRjQzSwmEHw")LINK(/a) to see the Drum Boogie video.

But, remember, use "<" instead of "(" and ">" instead of ")" or the link won't work!

The link I just showed will come out as this with the proper > and < signs:

(C) Please follow this LINK to see the Drum Boogie video.

The essential parts are (a href="http://address") and (/a). Whatever lies between becomes a link.

Always test your links by clicking on them!

Try fooling around with the spacing, anything between the (A HREF="...") and the (/A) will come out underlined as a blue link.

I used italics [anything between (i) and (/i) again with "(" = "<" and ")" = ">" will be italic] only to make this post easy to read. The italics are not essential. Capitalization doesn't matter either, one can use A HREF="..." or a href="..." but what lies between the quotes must be exact. The most common mistake is to ommit the = sign. If the link doesn't work, check for that.

Just type the full URL and hit the return key to make it a clickable link:

http://www.google.com

See?

Luke, that depends on your browser, and is not an embedded link. An embedded link takes you to the address from any prompt. See my thread "post your favorite" in banter to see the difference between his and my posts and what he wants to attain.

Ted:

I'm trying hard but can't make it work. My HTML manual shows the same code as you describe.

I type

(A HREF="http://www.google.com")Go to Google(/A)

with the parentheses replaced ... below

<A HREF="http://www.google.com">Go to Google</A>

and doesn't seem to work. Why?

Your form is correct, what browser are you using?

I use Netscape, and cannot even show the correct form, without it actually working and becomin transparent to the reader. If you use internet explorer, you will need to ask someone else for help.

Damn Microsft, Damn then to Hell!!!!

:)

Also, do you just get plain text with no link as shown, or do you get a defective link?

Ted

I'm using Internet Explorer. It doesn't even work when I try to send an e-mail message to myself using Outlook Express.

I think these are the same problems I had trying to use your method of inserting graphics in the forum messages.

Ah, well, thanks for the effort.

Sam

With internet explorer, type the sentence without code. Already have the link copied and ready to paste. Highlight the word you want to be a link in the "Type your message here:" edit box. Click on link (it may say link or be a chain icon) and paste the already copied link into the slot that pops up. Should be good to go. Do not attempt to use html in intenet explorer, gates knows you are too stupid to do it yourself.

Highlight the word you want to be a link in the "Type your message here:" edit box.

There is no such edit box in Internet Explorer/ RoR/Create New Post.

Can we do this by private e-mail?

Yeah, we're making way too much of this. I just thought it was a neater and cleaner way of posting.

We got into a big thing over embedding graphics in the postings, also. Sorry for all the traffic.

In the Create New Post box,

Normally, I already have the information (URL) I want linked in the post already copied and stored on my clip board ready for pasting.

Type the text you want to use as a link.

Example:  Sam's Stuff

Highlight the words "Sam's Stuff," then click the "Link" button located in the group of tools to the right.

A box will appear with which to enter the link information. Remove the http:// that already appears in the box (or it will be entered twice if you paste in the URL, which will create an error in the link) then paste or type in the URL (web address) to be linked.  Click "OK."

Sam's Stuff

If you right click on the link above (or any link), then click "Properties," you can see the actual URL used in the link.

Its fun to help Sam. :)

Noooo, Ted.

Loads of people use them. But I was pretty sure Sam didn't (he said he was using Explorer, which won't accept html code, like you've described.)

I meant in combination. I suppose IE's disabling the use of html is simply another proof of Gates' genius. Somehow.

Oh...does Sam have a Mac?  Don't know nothin' bout no Macs.

Well, it is kinda genius. I think it's meant to prevent sites from being hacked easily. I don't know for sure, though.

Looks like Marq's using an automatic translator, e.g. "Sam's Stuff" to "Sam's Squeeze", i.e. stuff = squeeze.

It's unintelligible
