|As a society, we spent so much time and effort patting ourselves on the back because we 'won the war' (ww2 that is), the children of the hero's of said war (baby boomers) the poster child of which is, dare I say Mr. Clinton himself. We lost track of the purpose of our education system. Weather the education was at home or in the classroom, it became just another step to the 'american dream'. When the 'boomers' were finally faced with the realtiy of their hero father's so called world war (vietnam anyone). Or for that matter Korea itself should have been a sign to what was coming. But I digress, this is really about our 'short cuts' real or fantasy to personal monetary success. And succeed we did, at least on the homefront. In the meantime, the world dictators (powerbrokers), and just plain mean people were coming out of their cocoons and destroying millions in their wake. But America still basking in their former glory (ww2hero worship), could not see what was happening. But the question is why could we not see it all. Was it simply a matter of not being 'educated', or even much more basic as in just reading ONLY the sports page, or sunday funnies. Well it was probably all of the above. I do have a point here, and will get to it soon. In a previous comment I indicated that one of the big reasons why Mr Obama won the election was because he appeared so loveable, especially to the democrat machine, including the King of the dems Senator Kennedy himself. I am always digressing. Mr Romney is neither likeable nor is he loveable, except of course to his fellow mormons. But ex-mormons can see right thru all his comments and realize that his church leaders in SLC will if they have not already done so, give him a special pass to do things different than regular mormons can do. That is still not my point.|
The baby boomers have spent years in a place of denial, looking for and sometimes finding the worm-hole, or the short cuts to awesome prosperity. They did this primarily not because they were 'stupid' or to say it nicely 'un-educated'. They did because they used the power of BELIEF, HOPE, and any other word that did not require them to study or investigate what was going on. When any politician in the past stands up and uses words that sound like what they grew up with, the response will be overwhelming in the affirmitive. From the standpoint of factual and educational information, Mr. Gingrich should have emerged as the most 'logical' candidate. but so many got bored and even fell asleep with is non-stop information. But then again this country was raised, no spoon fed with belief, faith, hope etc... Even 'positive thinking' was spread around with great gusto.
Bottom line: America will not give up it's religions/churches, even when faced with the kind of economy we are experiencing (really now, who can see the connection?). Rather than attempt to push an agenda which would hint at such a thing, we must first show how 'easy' it is to retain religious experience without the immense and complicated belief systems which divert so much of our attention away from the real purpose of government, politicians, and the reality of life itself. The process for doing that could be started if some of those ex-religionists could realize that their differences with religion was not religion, but rather the belief system attached to the religion (it is possible to seperate the two).
As long as Mr Obama can continue to look loveable, even if the country is in a mess, the nation with its associated slavery-guilt-feelings, and the strong belief systems which keeps them in lock-step together, will re-elect our current president. Hitler, managed to mobolize the german people in the nineteen thirties and fourties because of their feelings, not because of reality(ok, reality did help some). Once his hold was established, the rest was easy (strong-arm-kill-em-if-they-resist). It was then a simple matter of who had the bigger guns. To this day the average american (well at least those over 50) will tell you that we won because of God, not because of the H-Bomb. At the end of the day it is always about who likes (believes in) who the most. Don't mess with my God, I created him and he is just the way I want him to be. Is there a God? That is not the important question, the real question is: Can I deal with reality without having to 'believe' that he exists? Belief is the problem! Somehow we get to minimize the amount of belief inside ourselves. Just my opinion from just a high school education, but without the belief system!!! SYLVAN
