| | Rented "Promised Land" last night. Formulaic (with a slight twist) big bad corporate natural gas company hosing over the virtuous simple farmers of rural PA.
They so missed the story in PA. Not by a little, but by a lot.
The real corruption was as follows. The folks in the legislature in Harrisburg knew in advance that legalized NG fracking was coming to PA, so they sent out their families and crony friends to buy up mineral right leases from unsuspecting landowners for pennies on the dollar, and -they- sold the rights to Big bad Corporate American NG companies, at a huge profit based on insider knowledge.
But somehow that factual detail didn't make it into the movie, because it doesn't fit the narrative.
The movie was crap as far as telling the story. It did have a cynical twist which was entirely consistent with the constant drumbeat of Big Bad Capitalism / Corporate America.
Complete left wing strawman fantasy, 180 degrees from the actual facts on the ground.
