Mr. Bill O'Reily was recently caught entertaining a caller by the name of Jack Mehoff.  I found it amusing enough to use the name ...

This isn't exactly a "joke." It's a (very funny, in my opinion) speech from a movie.

It is apparent to me that some people who have commented on it don't get the joke.

There's a little bit of context missing. The movie is among other things a parody of American militaristic foreign policy. The "dicks" referred to in the speech are a team of "world policemen" who go after terrorists but are destructive and reckless in the way they do it.

The speech does work as a clever play on words / analogy, where each word (dick, pussy and asshole) is used both in its literal anatomical sense and in its slang sense of, respectively, jerk, wimp and bully.

Perhaps one had to be there; i.e. to see the movie and the context in which the speech was delivered. "Team America" is the most relentless, tho uneven, libertarian assualt on current world political philosophy. The movie spares no one, especially 'right thinking' liberal do-gooders.

I'm sort of in the middle on this debate. I agree that foul language or obscenity shouldn't be precluded. I also agree that it doesn't work in this case..and that's the real problem. Andre [#33] uses the three crude words at great length. But in his post, they work. South Park can be funny. But I walked out of this unskilled movie. Not because of obscenity or crudeness, but because I was falling asleep with boredom. The joke/parody does have a point. It's just poorly executed.

Yawn.

Philip, you failed to mention the most crucial failure:
Marionettes are just plain wrong...and evil.

Team America is one of the funniest movie I have ever seen. And, I think it had to be done with puppets to work. The speech that started this thread, when seen in context of the film, will make more sense than when taken alone. And, how many films do you see today that actually take on the Hollywood elite or Kim Jung Il. This one damn sure does. It's great!!

If I were a teenager and said I thought this movie was funny, I'm sure I would be told to "grow up."

Well I am grown up and I think it is hilarious, so zip it you old fuddy duddies!

Besides, the hero is named gary!
