Ah yes, the well-known British pastime of zinging Zee Germans. I assume it's an old joke, or at least I hope you don't have many 80-year-old pilots flying 747's... ;)

I still think that singing "One World Cup and Two World Wars doo dah, doo dah..." is funnier. Either that or whistling the "Colonel Bogie march."

If you ever attended the, what I call, restrained hostility at the German airport Frankfurt, you know that he had every right to do this sort of joke.
Even with the new Patriot Act and else, in place in the USA, it is still easier to get through your custom without getting into an argument than in Germany.
I have had so many problems with the German custom and informations panel that I sometimes think those service personel people are making fun of me.

Either I have always hit bad days or I am right with my assumption that these people are not trained in communications and hospitality or even simple courtesy...

I had a great time in Berlin a few years ago.    I hope this joke will not be seen as anti-german. For all I know they could be as bad at Heathrow!
As Steve said this dates from the 70s.(PanAm ain't  around no more.)  As for pilots ages I recently saw Ray Hanna chuck a Spitfire around the sky and he is nearer 80 than 70.He can't be insured can he?
