Scientists often tend to have ideas counter to Objectivism as the recent discussion on Richard Dawkins revealed. So I feel no surprise that Baez might fall into that camp.
Being academics too, they get government/collectivist (our) money. And a lot of people around them reinforce (reward/punish) their beliefs.
He is the cousin of Joan Baez.
Joan Baez sang her famous "One Tin Soldier" song at my elementary school, circa 1972, IIRC. She asked our class for a request, but disappointed us by declining to sing "Smoking in the Boys Room".
