Some Canadian writers are not particularly fond of this film:

Given the many health problems related to obesity, will Michael Moore exercise some -- gasp! -- personal responsibility and shed his excess pounds so he does not fall "victim" to our horrible American health care system?

Luke,

Doctors will also tell you that health problems come with just being a person who is as angry and unhappy as Michael Moore is.

Filmmaker Moore an example of health care problems

Moreover, consider all the energy that must be expended in growing, transporting, retailing, cooking and sewage treatment of all that extra food. Also there's the extra wear on furniture and the extra gasoline required to transport all that bulk of his. He is global warming personified.

"Fat tax" could save 3,200 lives each year

LONDON (Reuters) - A "fat tax" on salty, sugary and fatty foods could save thousands of lives each year, according to a study published on Thursday.

Why not just tax the fat people? ... a slob tax.

Right! It's not salt, sugar, or fat that makes people fat (and therefore, more medically expensive to 'upkeep'); it's personal choice that makes people fat. If we're going to tax anything, then it has to be our individual and objective parameters of health. In fact, this evil dictate would look something like this ...
===============
Hypertension Tax: $3 (adjusted, 2000 USD) per year for every 'mm Hg' above 'high-normal'
High Blood Lipid Tax: $1 for triglycerides and LDLs; -$2 for HDLs (possible tax credit available here; due to high HDLs!)
Glucose Intolerance Tax: $3 per year for every 'mg/dL' above 'high-normal'
Obesity Tax: $5 per year for every '% body fat' above "high-normal"
===============
Genetic Tax (taxing you for simply having a 1st-degree relative die prematurely from a chronic disease) would have to be implemented later, when more people considered themselves to be mere serfs to the State, existing only upon State permission.

Why not have a flat tax on Republicans, libertarians and so, and a progressive tax on Democrats, Greens and socialists? Independents could chose either, unregistered voters would pay both. Who could complain?
