| | The University of Florida Warrington College of Business has a standing policy that classroom grade point averages (GPAs) may not exceed 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.
So it is theoretically possible that this rule could force a professor to "curve down" if everyone in the class earned an A.
Our professor of business financial management shared this with us.
He actually showed us the fancy curving algorithm he used which involved calculating the mean and standard deviation of the scores and then adjusting them to fit his standard bell curve.
I regret not capturing that information for future reference when he shared it.
As I recall, the number of points added (or subtracted) did resemble the scoring system in the joke.
In my evaluation of that professor, I stated that the large amounts of curving his tests required suggested the need for a more realistic evaluation of student abilities versus test content.
